Hey Guys,

We’ve all been there. You hit 40, maybe 45, and you realize the ‘old version’ of you isn’t showing up in the mirror anymore. The energy is lower, the gut is bigger, and the confidence—that articulate, direct strength you have on your boat or in the field—starts to feel like it’s trapped under a layer of rust.

Welcome to the first edition of the Guide to Fit newsletter.

I’m Matt Myers, and like many of you, I’m in the middle of a ‘Savage Rebuild.’ This isn’t just about losing 20 pounds or hitting a new PR on the treadmill. This is about Identity.

The 40+ Trap

Most fitness programs are built for 20-year-olds with no kids and zero joint pain. They tell you to ‘just want it more.’ But at our age, willpower is a finite resource. You’ve got a mortgage, a family legacy to build, and a business to run.

You don’t need more willpower. You need a new identity.

The Shift

When you’re on your boat, you’re the captain. You’re confident, articulate, and in control. My goal with Guide to Fit is to help you bring that same ‘Captain’ energy into your health.

This Week’s Focus: The Baseline

Before we build the penthouse, we check the foundation.

  1. The Walk: 40 minutes, 3.0 mph, 3% incline. Don’t overthink it. Just move.

  2. The Protein: 1g per pound of goal body weight. If you want to be 210lbs, eat 210g.

  3. The Mirror: Stop looking at what you lost. Start looking at the man you’re rebuilding.

We’re breaking generational patterns of cardiovascular disease and stagnation. We’re doing it for Tanner, for Lainey, and for Kristina. But mostly, we’re doing it because we refuse to settle for ‘fine.’

Stay savage.
